New Minister of Communications wages war on data costs!
South Africa has a new Minster of Communications, Solly Malatsi. Speaking to the SABC shortly after his appointment he outlined his plans which includes making sure that all South Africans have access to dependable and affordable internet.
Only 14.5% of South Africans currently have access to a fixed-line internet connection such as fibre at their home or place of business. And while close to 80% have access to mobile internet, South Africans could be paying as much as R85 per Gigabyte (GB) of data depending on which package option they have with their mobile operator. How does this cost compare to fibre data?
For comparative purposes, we looked at the amount of data our busiest prepaid customer consumed during the month of June, on our 50Mbps 31-Day prepaid fibre product:
The customer bought an 31-day prepaid voucher for R535 and used 985 gigs which means that the cost per gig equals to R0,54.
This means that a prepaid fibre connection can offer significant savings compared to mobile data.
Fibre data clearly represents exceptional value for money! While you will always need mobile data when you are out and about, make sure that you that get the most out of your fibre data connection at home. Click here for some useful tips on using your home Wi-Fi connection.
